Node Properties Window and Memos
Double-clicking a node opens its floating Properties window. Because the window can be freely moved and resized, you can inspect the surrounding workflow canvas while editing parameters, configuring ports, or writing Markdown documentation memos for the node.
Moving and Resizing the Window
- Drag any empty area of the top title bar to move the Properties window across the screen.
- Drag any of the four edges or four corners to resize the window. A minimum window size is enforced, and the title bar is always kept within the visible viewport so the window can never be lost off-screen.
- Double-click an empty area of the title bar to restore the window to its default centered size and position.
- The last used window position and size are remembered in your browser (
localStorage) and reused the next time you open a node's Properties window. Window geometry is local to your browser and is not stored inside workflow files.
Canvas Behavior While the Window Is Open
- While the Properties window is open, the underlying canvas enters view-only mode: you can pan (right-click drag or scroll) and zoom (mouse wheel) to inspect the diagram, but you cannot select, move, edit, or wire nodes on the canvas.
- Header menus, the node palette, the right-hand inspector panel, the tab bar, and the status bar are locked while the window is open. Clicking outside the window does not close it, preventing accidental loss of unsaved parameter edits.
- Close the window using the top-right โ button, pressing Esc, or clicking Apply & Close / Cancel.
Node Memos
Use the Memo tab in the Properties window to document what a node does in your protocol, where a constant or test vector comes from (such as an RFC section or NIST KAT file), why specific parameters were chosen, or security caveats. Memos are saved inside the workflow file (.ncw and draft JSON) but have zero effect on runtime execution.
- Switch between Edit to write Markdown and Preview to read the formatted note. When opening a node that already has a memo, the tab starts in Preview mode. Memos can be up to 20,000 characters long.
- Nodes with a non-empty memo display a memo badge icon in their card header on the canvas. Hovering over the icon shows a formatted preview of the note, and clicking the icon opens the Properties window directly to the Memo tab.
- Workflows generated by AI agents also include node memos explicar protocol steps and test vector citations.
