User Input Dialog

Category: Input/Output Data ยท Node Type ID: input-dialog

Prompts user for runtime input via dialog or fallback test value, of a user-selected type

Overview

Prompts the user for an interactive runtime value via a modal dialog when the workflow executes in the browser, or falls back to the configured default value when running in headless/automated test environments or when the dialog is dismissed.

Like Static Value, the node supports four primitive data types (Bytes, String, Int, and Bool) and adapts its output port type and default value field accordingly. An optional Trigger input port allows you to sequence the prompt so that it only appears after an upstream node has completed.

When to Use

Parameter Configuration

Parameter (ID)Type & DefaultVisibility ConditionDescription & Options
Type
type

Default: string
Always visible Data type of the value requested from the user and emitted by the User Input output port (bytes, string, int, or bool).
  • bytes: Bytes (Hex)
  • string: String (Text)
  • int: Int (Number)
  • bool: Bool (True/False)
Prompt Message
promptMessage
text
Default: Enter value:
Supports Variable Reference ($var: string)
Always visible Message text displayed inside the runtime input dialog box to explain what value the user should enter.
Default Value (Bytes)
defaultBytes
hex
Default: 00112233445566778899aabbccddeeff
Supports Variable Reference ($var: bytes)
When type is bytes Fallback hex string pre-filled in the dialog and used in non-interactive runs when Type = bytes.
Default Value (String)

When type is string Fallback text string pre-filled in the dialog and used in non-interactive runs when Type = string.
Default Value (Int)
defaultInt
number
Default: 0
Supports Variable Reference ($var: int)
When type is int Fallback integer literal (parsed as bigint) used when Type = int.
Default Value (Bool)

Supports Variable Reference ($var: bool)
When type is bool Fallback boolean value (true or false) used when Type = bool.
  • true: True
  • false: False

Port I/O Specification

See Ports & Connections for general wiring rules, data type colors, and dynamic port creation.

Input Ports

Port Nature: Fixed Input Ports (1 total).

Port NamePort IDData TypeRequiredVisibility ConditionDescription
Trigger trigger Any Optional Always visible Optional sequencing input of any data type. When connected, the dialog is only triggered after the upstream node connected to Trigger finishes.

Output Ports

Port Nature: Fixed Output Ports (1 total).

Port NamePort IDData TypeVisibility ConditionDescription
Value string String Always visible Emits the user-entered (or fallback default) value in the selected data type (Bytes, String, Int, or Bool).

Error Cases

This node has no runtime failure cases (errorProfile: none) and always succeeds for any valid typed input.

Examples

Interactive Passphrase Prompt for PBKDF2

Ask the user for a passphrase at runtime and derive a 256-bit key.

  1. Set Type to String (Text) and Prompt Message to "Enter master passphrase:".
  2. Connect the User Input output port to String to Bytes, then into the Password / Secret port of PBKDF2 Key Derivation.
